Ultrasound

  • How soon can I preg-check for pigs?

The optimal time is 28-32 days post breeding, but with practice it is possible to detect pregnancy at 22 days.

  • Do I need Wi-Fi in the barn for the wireless ultrasounds to work?

No, the probe generates a Wi-Fi signal that the tablet connects directly to in order to transmit the images.

  • Do I need to use a gel when scanning with ultrasound?

Yes, it is necessary to use a gel to bridge the gap between the probe and the pig, even a small amount of air can scatter the ultrasonic waves and disrupt the image. We suggest using Clarity Ultrasound Gel, which we sell in 12oz and gallon sizes.

Semen Storage Units

  • Is the temperature controller preset?

Yes, we set the control to maintain a temperature between 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit. Typically, you will see the temperature stay between 63-65 in a 70 degree (or warmer) room.

  • Can I have the display show in Celsius instead of Fahrenheit?

Yes, the display on the outside of the door can be changed easily. You have to just remove it from the door and open the back of the display with a tiny Phillips head screwdriver. Inside, you will see a small switch and when you move it to the other side the display will change to Celsius. If your display has quit working this is also where you can change the battery to get it working again.

  • Can I use the storage unit in a shed?

Yes, if you have a heat and cool unit, it will maintain the correct temperature even in the winter. However, it does need to be in some sort of shelter. You cannot leave the unit in a snowdrift (or outside in the direct summer sun).
